Back When The Dow Hit 14,164, the Infamous Two-Year Anniversary

Yes, next week we’ll hit a rather infamous anniversary.  Two years ago on October 9, 2007 the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit 14,164.  In fact, the Dow actually hit 14,166 during the day on October 9th.  And it even hit a momentary all-time high of 14,198 two days later on October 11th.

But that’s, unfortunately, all history, isn’t it?

Now — two years later — we sit at a ‘recovered’ 30% loss.  That’s much better than the roughly 54% loss the Dow experienced as recently as March 2009 when the Dow bottomed out at roughly 6,500, but it’s still a huge step backward [ more . . . ]

NoBeverageandFoodTaxes.com: What a Joke!

Seriously, their ads (NoBeverageandFoodTaxes.com) have been on quite a lot lately, at least in my television viewing area.

“[Likely a paid actress acting like a hard-working Mom] Washington is talking about a new tax on juice drinks and soda.  They say it’s only pennies.  Well, those pennies add up when you’re trying to feed a family.  Washington, if you’re listening . . What doesn’t seem like much to you can be a lot to us.

[Narrative Voice] Tell Congress, no taxes on juice drinks and sodas.”

What a joke!  You mean to tell me that you, i.e. the people publishing this ad, want [ more . . . ]

Raising the Stakes on the Public Option

I just finished watching Ocean’s Thirteen so, I’ve got a little bit of a gambling fixation.  Not that I would ever bet on Healthcare Reform — It’s way too important an issue — but what does gambling say about where the Public Option might stand right now?

Bear with me for a moment . . . Something like 77% of Americans think the time is right for a Public Option (see SurveyUSA poll Question #2).  But a lot of the criticism that’s coming out of Washington right now centers on the health insurance companies — largely due to Republican and [ more . . . ]

Representative Joe Wilson Sidesteps Apology in Relaunching House Website #JWHWW

Unless he does something similarly reprehensible in the future, we’re just going to document that Representative Joe Wilson has clearly elected to sidestep his apology to President Obama vis-a-vis Representative Wilson’s “You lie!” shout in the middle of the President’s address to Congress . . and be done with it.

We’re not going to take screenshots — We’re simply going to state the facts, that at 2.28PM Friday, September 18, 2009, Representative Wilson’s website featured . . .

Representative Joe Wilson, You Should Not be Out Playing When Your Website Isn’t Up #JWHWW

This is a quick update on the Joe Wilson House Website Watch (#JWHWW on Twitter).  Apparently Representative Wilson can go out and play on a sunny Saturday when his House website is still not finished.

Take a look at every other Representative’s website, but then look at Representative Wilson’s House website (a quick snapshot also posted here).  There’s no comparison — Representative Wilson’s House website simply doesn’t compare.

The Joe Wilson House Website Watch now officially stands at 36:50+ hours and counting.

Representative Wilson, you should be ashamed to be raising money when you’re not even willing to publish [ more . . . ]

Representative Joe Wilson Makes a Groundhog-Like Appearance from the Internet’s ‘Tubes’ #JWHWW

Interesting.  Representative Joe Wilson shouts at the President of the United States during an address to Congress last night, and the first thing Representative Wilson launches on his House website is this?

Look, I’m not an IT professional, but I’m well technical enough to sniff out internet trickery.  If you visited Representative Joe Wilson’s House website just a few minutes ago, what you would have seen is what’s posted to the right.

It may be a little hard to read in the scaled-down version, but the message at the bottom of the [ more . . . ]

In Memory and Resolve of 9-11

As we remember 9-11, let us not forget those who attacked us.  And let us not loose our resolve to — however we can, however we need to, abiding by our values and code — to make sure it does not happen again.

There is legitimate debate as of late — as there always should be — on how to proceed with respect to Afghanistan.  We should always have debate on such topics.  But let us not loose sight on the objective, that of disabling and dismantling Al-Qaeda.  They are the ones that attacked us, and it’s them and their affiliates [ more . . . ]

. . . But Representative Joe Wilson’s Congressional Campaign is in FULL Gear

I’m not going to take more than a minute or two to point out Representative Joe Wilson’s hypocrisy, but it’s rather stunning that his Congressional website — where his apology should be visible front-and-center — is inaccessible whereas his campaign website is not only in full gear but also claiming, “Joe Wilson is Under Attack — Stand with Joe Today”.

Joe, I don’t like you because you were rude.  To use your own rudeness as basis for claiming you’re under attack is not as bad (but analogous to) a child pornographer complaining that children smile for the camera (and that it’s [ more . . . ]

What D’ya Know? Representative Joe Wilson’s Congressional Website is ‘Out of Order’

Representative Joe Wilson's Congressional Website 'Out-of-Order' at 11:34PM ET, September 10, 2009

This is a relatively minor point, but I find it odd and noteworthy that Representative Joe Wilson’s Congressional website is down.

The excuse is ‘exceptionally high traffic’, but I’m suspicious — We are, after all, well into the internet age and talking about the web servers of the federal government, particularly those belonging to Congress.  These servers are accessed by [ more . . . ]
