Rudy Giuliani: A Study in Using Terorrism for Political Gain

It’s stunning.  I know Rudy Giuliani quickly became a political opportunist over the course of the last Presidential election, but is it really possible he has absolutely no clue?

And is it really possible he thinks New York voters have such short attention spans?

9-11 is no laughing matter, and while Rudy Giuliani admittedly doesn’t laugh when he says one or the other, his polar-opposite positions on prosecuting terrorists in U.S. criminal courts is, well, laughable.

In 2006, Rudy Giuliani applauded the prosecution of Zacarias Moussaoui in Alexandria, VA.  He even testified.  Here’s an excerpt of the contemporaneous FOX News article on the [ more . . . ]

Interesting, What are the Results of New York’s 23rd District?

Elections can be funny things some times — Take Senator Al Franken winning in Minnesota!

What’s interesting — and what I picked up on Twitter thanks to @KatyinIndy — is that the vote in New York’s 23rd district is still being counted.  More importantly, the gap in votes between the ‘winner’, Bill Owens, and the principle ‘looser’, Doug Hoffman, is tightening, though it’s still a fairly wide margin.  And that raises an interesting question, exactly how / why was Bill Owens sworn into office on Friday, November 6?

Well, it’s an interesting question — and I do think this is worth looking [ more . . . ]

Outside Thinking on the Inside of Afghanistan . . . What To Do?

I don’t know, at least not for certain anyway — And it’s likely no else does for sure, either.  In math-speak, Afghanistan is fairly intractable, meaning very difficult to solve . . . and for a problem of this magnitude, that’s an understatement.

It’s also in large part why I’ve stayed away from commenting much on Afghanistan here at LittleDEM.  Simply put, it’s too important a problem to be at all casual about.

But now is the time to put forth all ideas, suggestions, and observations to get Afghanistan right (or at least as right as we can make the situation).  It’s [ more . . . ]

StableQualityCare.org: The 1 Minute on Healthcare Reform that Matters

I feel like I know these people.  I feel like they’re my Mother or Father.  I feel like I felt years ago when I was sitting in a hospital bed uncertain about my own future and, unknown to me, about to fight a multi-year battle with my insurance company and former employer over benefits I paid for and deserved.

These people, albeit actors, personify real people — Watch.

Practicing Limited Compassion: The Archdiocese of Washington DC

Here’s an interesting not-much-reported story related to Gay Marriage.  It seems the Archdiocese of Washington (that’s Washington DC) has issued a News & Events post on its website within the past couple days threatening that they may not be able to keep helping the poor because — get this — the DC City Council is considering passing a law that would require the Archdiocese to not discriminate based on same sex marriage status “the use of a church hall for non-wedding events for same-sex married couples”.

Again, the DC City Council is considering passing a law that would require the [ more . . . ]

Moderate Republicans Should Breakaway and Form Their Own Party

Yes, I know — It’s been said before. But I don’t think it’s ever been truer than it is right now, and now is the perfect timing to do it.

First of all, look at the Republican Party’s infrastructure and what they currently have in place, starting with the Republican National Committee.

There isn’t anything there, at least very little of any actual value. The RNC is a piece of junk and, led by Party Chairman Michael Steele, as apt to say something palatable as it is to say something that gives most Americans the heebie-jeebies. Heck, in a [ more . . . ]

DontKillGrandma.com: What a Joke!

The Right’s next best effort at fear mongering, this time on a domestic issue, is DontKillGrandma.com.  It looks like they’ve started only in the past week or two (late October or very early November).  What’s stunning is the website’s basic premise, that someone — anyone — wants to Kill Grandma.

Look, this isn’t some Kill Bill: Vol. 2 sequel — This is real.  It’s unacceptable to hold Grandma hostage to such tactics, virtual or otherwise.  It’s an wholly unintelligent tactic to gain notice and make people afraid, made all the moreso pathetic by the simple fact those behind DontKillGrandma.com know [ more . . . ]

Just Postponed Until 2010?!?

I love Sarah Palin — She’s the verbal gaffe equivalent of President Ford occasionally falling down a set of stairs while disembarking from Air Force One.  Just the other day she offered this in response to Doug Hoffman having lost the House election on November 3rd . . .

“The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010.”  . . . “I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.”

Ok, with that loopy Sarah Palin logic, let’s [ more . . . ]

A Suggestion for House Minority Leader John Boehner

Simply put, why don’t you also carry around a copy of the Declaration of Independence while you’re at it!

Why Do Anti-Gay Groups Take Such Gay Positions?

Talk about a headline, huh!  And — interestingly enough — it about sums the whole thing up when it comes to Gay Marriage, at least in Maine.

I actually was in Maine the past few days right before the November 3rd elections, and what shocked me was how absolutely gay . . .

. . . the anti-gay marriage protest signs were.  (They just screamed, “I hate gay people!”  And they were yellow — Very gay!)

. . . and wimpy was the fear-mongering being deployed that gay, married people are somehow going to ‘invade your schools and make [ more . . . ]
