Scott Brown won, and Scott Brown deserves to be congratulated for that.

That said, I’m not so sure the People of Massachusetts will be happy with the result, whether now or somewhat soon.  The one and only caveat to that statement depends on whether Senator-Elect Scott Brown changes the color of his [ more . . . ]]]> First of all, Congratulations to Scott Brown.  I mean that.  Having run for office myself (office, not public office), it’s no easy task.  It’s hard.  It’s fun.  It’s grueling.  And at least part of it is that you hope you end up with as few people hating you as possible.

Scott Brown won, and Scott Brown deserves to be congratulated for that.

That said, I’m not so sure the People of Massachusetts will be happy with the result, whether now or somewhat soon.  The one and only caveat to that statement depends on whether Senator-Elect Scott Brown changes the color of his leaf . . or color of his stripes . . or whatever visual you want to use.

The simple fact of the matter is Scott Brown is largely inconsistent with the wishes and desires of a majority of the People of Massachusetts.  As much as anyone reading this may agree or disagree, Massachusetts is one of the few states (Commonwealth actually) where Gay Marriage is legal.  Massachusetts is one of the few states with a mandatory health insurance requirement that rides along with a, roughly speaking, public option for those who can’t afford full-priced insurance.  Massachusetts is decidedly Pro-Choice on the matter of Abortion.   The People of Massachusetts don’t believe in the Death Penalty . . and soundly reaffirmed that belief as recently as 2007.  And Senator-Elect Scott Brown is incompatible with all those positions.

I’m simply making a point of consistency.

Keep in mind, while he wasn’t my choice, I by no means mean to bash Scott Brown — It’s just that his trajectory doesn’t fit that of the People of Massachusetts.

Scott Brown may have done an exceedingly good job convincing a majority of Tuesday’s voters that he was an independent, truck driving, guy just like you.  But the bigger question is whether Senator-Elect Scott Brown will actually represent the People of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts once he arrives in Washington, DC as a full-fledged Senator.

He’s won the right to prove himself, of that there is no doubt.  But my suspicion is that ‘track record’ means everything when you have something to look back on.  Scott Brown has been a reliably-voting Republican, and just as colleges look to high school performance to gauge college potential, I find it unlikely that Senator Scott Brown will pivot much toward representing the majority beliefs of the People of Massachusetts.

Again, Congratulations.  I just think it’s going to be tough road, that is unless Senator Scott Brown actually proves his value through his deeds as Senator.

As for a tongue-in-cheek review / assessment of the Special Election in Massachusetts . . .

• This is what happens when one candidate runs the best, most effective campaign they could have ever hoped for . . . and the other candidate runs the worst.  Quite frankly, it was like one candidate saved a truckload of puppies and the other was caught picking their nose in their high school yearbook photo.
• This is what happens when a candidate does such just a great job at marketing that it convinces people to vote for them for reasons like they drive a truck as opposed to (or in addition to) actual / concrete positions.  On this point, I have to call Scott Brown out on the carpet — His issues page on his website read like a 5th grader’s book report.
• This is what happens when a race, an opponent, an opponent’s party . . . and voters . . . are all taken for granted (and not by the opponent).
• This is what happens when one candidate invites the President of the United States to their city, prompting a half-mile of 1,000’s of supporters to stand in line for hours . . . and not hand out a single sign.
• This is what happens when a candidate and a party don’t fight.
• This is what happens when you don’t define your opponent (and let your opponent do it for themself).
• This is what happens when you let your opponent define you.

Well, I’ll tell you, I’m sick of Scott Brown supporters, and here’s why (submitted on-line as well in reply to Ms Vennochi’s Op-Ed).

To all the Scott Brown supporters out there . . . The facts are the facts. So far — in just the past few days — I’ve had the following encounters with [ more . . . ]]]> There’s a Boston Globe Op-Ed written by Joan Vennochi that lays out a pattern of how Scott Brown and his supporters are, simply put, bullying. And wouldn’t you know it, Scott Brown supporters are all over Ms. Vennochi for daring to write the truth.

Well, I’ll tell you, I’m sick of Scott Brown supporters, and here’s why (submitted on-line as well in reply to Ms Vennochi’s Op-Ed).

To all the Scott Brown supporters out there . . . The facts are the facts. So far — in just the past few days — I’ve had the following encounters with Scott Brown supporters:

1) Nearly run over at a STOP sign by a supporter driving with too many signs in his windows to see clearly . . . and not bothering to stop at a STOP sign. (He was blowing right through it to keep on his circuit.)

2) Told to ’shut up’ when I politely asked a Brown supporter to go back to the other side of the street where his fellow supporters were freely gathered while I and many, MANY others waited in line at Northeastern to see both Martha Coakley and the President of the United States.

3) Harassed by another Scott Brown supporter while standing in line to see Martha Coakley and the President of the United States. He insisted on waving his Scott Brown poster in my face, making veiled threats, and generally being a total jerk. The only reason I didn’t punch his lights out was because two older women in line asked me not to.

4) On Twitter, I’ve been the target of profanity from Brown Supporters that I never contacted or reached out to, been told my priorities are ’sick’ when it comes to my belief we should hold child molesters accountable for their actions, and harassed by roving ‘gangs’ of Brown Supporters that pile-on attack after attack after attack.

WELL, THIS IS ONE ELIGIBLE VOTER THAT WON’T BE INTIMIDATED !

You see, I’m an action-oriented, mostly-Democrat that’s not going to take it from any of you.

Scott Brown is someone hardly anyone knows anything about. His team has admittedly done an exceedingly good job, but that job has been at hiding who Scott Brown is, what Scott Brown stands for, and what he will do to represent the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States Senate.

Oh, and for closers, Scott Brown had a PERFECT opportunity to affirm that violence is totally unacceptable when instead he nodded and smiled at a supporter who shouted that “they should shove a curling iron up her [Martha Coakley's] butt”. That’s disgusting. That’s vile. And Scott Brown did NOTHING but smile and nod.

That’s not the kind of person I want representing me, nor I think the kind of person most of the people of Massachusetts would want representing them.

I don’t care if it’s a stupid person’s best one-liner. Scott Brown had an obligation to correct and counter his supporter on the spot. It is after all his supporter. Scott Brown is responsible for setting the tone and behavior of his campaign, and he’s failed utterly.

In, oh, just over a minute he manages to defend Sarah Palin and — get this — distance himself from President Obama’s black heritage.  What, Scott, the next best thing to having a white President is not having to admit you have a half black one?

But let’s be honest and fair — I’ll start.

Mr. Brown, there’s a lot of people out there with what we call ‘pre-existing conditions’. The bills before the House and Senate would finally make it illegal for health insurance companies to discriminate — and deny — coverage based on those finicky pre-existing conditions.

The stance of Republicans — and you — is to deny the People that basic right they should have already long had. That’s a dick position — What the hell do you have against sick people, Scott?

After all, Scott, you did say you would vote against the Healthcare Reform bill if you were to be given the chance. So what’s your beef with sick people, Scott?

Oh, and I’m voting for Martha Coakley on Tuesday, January 19 because she does not have a beef with sick people and actually wants to help those in need.

Then while I’m in line [ more . . . ]]]> While walking to and then waiting in line for the rally for Martha Coakley with President Barack Obama at Northeastern University, here’s my experience with Scott Brown supporters . . .

First, I was nearly run over at a STOP sign by a guy with too many Scott Brown signs in his windows and too bothered to stop, let alone to actually take the time to look, to see me or anyone else in time.  (Oh, and the same guy later heckled the crowd while driving by the line of people waiting to get into the event.)

Then while I’m in line I’m told to ’shut up’ by a Scott Brown supporter determined to harass the line of people waiting to see Martha Coakley and the President of the United States.  (This in response to my asking that he please stand on the other side of the street with his fellow supporters.)

And then I get a third Scott Brown supporter walking down the line of people waiting to get into the event that insists on waving a sign in my face for chanting, “If it’s Brown, flush it down.”  He didn’t like that . . . and I didn’t like that he was going out of his way to harass Martha Coakley supporters.

This is the kind of class behavior Scott Brown stands for?  And this is the kind of supporters he attracts?
